Have I gone paedo?
Luckily not, but I do seem to have developed the music taste of a teenage girl (not to mention insomnia).
OK so in truth that is probably an unfair statement. The fact is I don’t actually particularly like some of these songs that seem to inhabit my head much of the time, it’s like they’re implanted directly into my brain by the controllers and ‘taste-makers’ at Radio 1. And then they play over and over there, impossible to dislodge and, after the fifth time you hear them, impossible not to sing along to.
The fact that I am even aware of the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen (I am glad that I at least had to Google her name to get the spelling right) and Conor Maynard aged 30 is borderline tragic. Some may say I’m so far over the border I can’t even see the border. I promise you it’s not like I’m actively trying to cling to my youth by listening to this music, it’s more that, as I’ve said in an earlier blog, it’s just I don’t know where else to go for radio companionship for my commute.
I’ve tried. I’ve flipped through the stations but nothing sticks. They’re either full of trashy ads and bad 80s tunes, feature Savage Garden heavily or are far too high brow for my tiny mind. And so I return to Radio 1, and to Carly, Conor and Bieber, even if it does make me cringe.
I do worry that if I don’t grow out of that station soon I’ll be letting out little screams when JLS come on the radio and start putting posters up of Harry Styles in my bedroom. So please inspire me with your suggestions people! Either that or who knows, I may start to wish I had a Conor Maynard look-alike in my bed…which may cause different problems entirely.
